Sheiling Cottage is situated on an organic farm on the north west corner of the enchanting Isle of Mull. It takes one hour to get there from the ferry terminal at Craignure, mostly along single track roads. It is one mile along an unmade up farm track from the public road. The glorious white sands and turquoise waters of Calgary Beach are 3 miles away and there is a hotel there, open during the season to non-residents. The blackhouse itself is freestanding, situated on the edge of the stone 'farm square' with the Studio (self catering sleeping 6) behind it and a view from the front over a corner of the owners garden to the sea and islands beyond. . Despite the relative proximity of other dwellings, Sheiling feels perfectly quiet and quite private - guests are seldom disturbed except for the apricot call ducks who sometimes wander under the garden gate, onto the doorstep looking for crumbs! The contemporary working of the farm is based in the new farm buildings at some distance from Sheiling and the farm square along the track towards Haunn. This is where the animals are housed in winter and the sheep 'fank' (for handling the sheep) are sited. |

Sheiling has a small gravel garden with garden furniture. The views are extensive, to the dramatic Treshnish headland and out to sea, enjoyed by many returning guests who sit out, just looking and enjoying the fantastic late sunsets setting over the island of Coll in the summer. |

Sheiling Cottage started life more than two hundred years ago as a blackhouse. A single storey dwelling with thick walls made of local stone, with traditionally rounded corners. It would have slept a large family within one or two rooms and originally would have had a thatch roof. It became a farm building fifty years ago, divided into three sheds - one housing the diesel generator and another the farm stallion! |

In 1998/9 Sheiling was renovated beautifully and converted back into a blackhouse again, but this time enjoying the benefits of modern building standards. So the thick stone walls remain but warmly insulated and with double glazed windows. The interior is decorated and furnished to a high standard, and is recognized by the Visit Scotland 3 star rating. |

A terracotta tiled porch (with electricity meter, coat hanging space) leads you into the open plan living room. Floored in maple, this has a well-equipped kitchen area at one end (antique pine table, ceramic hob cooker, fridge freezer, dishwasher, granite worktops). Whilst two sofas beside an antique painted dresser (cd player, selection of cds, local information, books and games) and a gas fired stove create the relaxing sitting area at the other end. Next door is the double bedroom with en-suite shower-room/w.c. The cottage has electric (Total control) heating. |

Treshnish Farm is situated on the dramatic headland south of Calgary Bay. If you stand on Calgary Beach you see the headland itself reaching out to sea. The walking is easy; our highest hill is 700 feet above sea level, but very rewarding. Cliffs tumble onto 'raised beaches', fall further to the sea, nesting places for sea birds, ledges for sheep to shelter on, spectacular and exciting, hidden coves, caves, and small beaches. People have lived here since the days of the hunter-gatherer, and there are pieces of landscape archeology wherever you care to explore. |

The farm is a traditional Highland farm with cattle (Highland x Shorthorn, Aberdeen Angus and Blue Greys) and Blackface Sheep. The whole farm is under management of an E.S.A. (Environmentally Sensitive Area), which protects the varied habitats on the farm to best preserve the wonderful flora and fauna that are found here. In May the orchids are extraordinary, the accidental result of a recently changed grazing regime, they grow in carpets! |
